Tulia Resort Desalination

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Tulia resort in Zanzibar is a luxury boutique hotel on the shores of the Indian Ocean. Due to the remoteness of the location, the hotel is not connected to a municipal water supply. Prior to the installation of a Moerk Water treatment system, water was trucked in to supply the hotel. In 2015, Moerk Water installed a dual purpose system consisting of an ultrafiltration and softening unit along with a desalination unit. The treatment system can treat both non-potable water using the ultrafiltration system and it can desalinate both the brackish groundwater or the ocean water. The unit is built from quality parts and built to German engineering standards. This unit has been in operation since 2015 and is regularly serviced by Moerk’s local service technicians, Pamoja Zanzibar. The unit is designed to be integrated with renewable energy to make it a truly sustainable off-grid water solution.

Project Outcomes:

  • A remote resort in Zanzibar needed a reliable water supply. Moerk Water installed a membrane filtration unit at the resort in 2015.
  • The unit is regularly serviced by Moerk trained service technicians from Pamoja Zanzibar
  • The Moerk Water unit includes both an ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis system so the unit can be used both as a purification system for non-potable water and as a desalination system.
  • The Moerk Water unit can be integrated with renewable energy if required to make it a truly off-grid solution
