The Day of German Unity (Tag der Deutschen Einheit) is Germany’s national day to commemorate its reunification in 1990.
We took part in the celebrations here on the same day as our home country, 3rd October, joining the German Honorary Consul, Torsten Ketelsen, and the new German Ambassador, Dr Anna Prinz at a wonderful reception in the Ballroom at Government House in Perth.
It was Ambassador Prinz’s first official visit to Western Australia. During the reception, she awarded the Federal Cross of Merit to the Honorary Consul for the Federal Republic of Germany, Torsten Ketelsen.
We also honoured the 175th anniversary of the first Germans to settle in Australia when the Ambassador joined Her Excellency the Hon Kerry Sanderson, Governor of Australia to launch Born in Germany-Reborn in Australia by Professor Alexandra Ludewig, UWA.
