Wednesday 22nd March 2023 is World Water Day. The theme of this year’s World Water Day is accelerating change to improve access to Water and Sanitation globally. We are midway through the International Decade for Action on Water for Sustainable Development (2018-2028) and meeting the water, sanitation and hygiene SDG targets by 2030 requires a four fold increase in the current rate of implementation.
Additionally, Climate Change is putting the gains the sector has made over the previous five years at risk with communities, particularly in South East Asia and the Pacific, facing additional water stresses due to the changing climate. Given the challenge at hand, the UN is hosting its first water conference in nearly 5 decades. The UN 2023 Water Conference starts on World Water Day and runs until Friday 24th March. The themes of the conference include water for health, water for sustainable development, water for cooperation and water for climate, resilience and environment.
Over the last decade, Moerk Water Solutions has been partnering with communities to not only provide them with renewable energy powered, off-grid water treatment systems but also by building local capacity through long term operator training and the development of local service capabilities to support these installations. This ensures that communities not only have access to an improved source of water but can maintain it sustainably.
