On the 21st of August, Hon. Ralph Regenvanu (MP) Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and External Trade invited a delegation to his home Island of Uripiv, Vanuatu to learn about Uripiv communities and culture. Moerk Water was honoured to have the delegation visit one of our projects which demonstrates good water treatment practice. Hon. Regenvanu showed the delegation of High Commissioners (from Australia, New Zealand, China, Britain and Japan) our solar powered, reverse osmosis desalination plant which provides 800 islanders with 280 litre per hour of safe drinking water supply all year-round.
“First time in history of our island we have a source of water which is reliable. When the rainwater tanks are empty, groundwater is not the best to drink. Whatever happens, we have a source of freshwater to drink.””
In August, Moerk Water’s Directors and Staff attended the Pacific Water and Wastewater Conference in Vanuatu to present our projects, technology and network with representatives from the Asia-Pacific Islands.
The conference was supported by The Australian Water Partnership and the theme of the conference was “Smart Island Water”. The live presentation of our portable desalination unit created special interest among the delegates.
It was great to meet so many representatives from Asia-Pacific Islands.
We thank the Vanuatu Department of Water Resources very much for their hospitality and congratulate them again on their well-deserved awards.
HE Ms Jenny Da Rin, Australian High Commissioner to Vanuatu and Hon Alex Hawke, Australian Minister for Pacific Affairs and International Development visited our booth.
“One of the star attractions was a ‘suitcase’ portable water plant. Perth-based Moerk Water Solutions showcased a solar-powered desalination system that they claim can produce up to 30 litres of fresh water every hour. The entire system packs into a pair of large metal boxes.”
Moerk Water welcomed Mr Erickson Sammy (2nd from left) Director of Department of Water Resources, Vanuatu and his colleagues. Robert Iromalefo, Masters student at Curtin University and intern at Moerk Water, presented the Portable Unit.
Our Director of International Business Development, Barbara Brezger gave a well- attended presentation on the topic of “An Holistic Approach – Making the Island Communities Resilient Against Climate Change Challenges”.
Moerk Water was invited to a networking event hosted by Murdoch University with other industry partners. This event was part of the “Renewable Energy Technologies in Eastern Indonesia Short Term Award”.
25 high level scientists from Indonesia were selected to connect with Australian partners to collaborate in renewable energy projects in Indonesia. The course participants come from the private sector, institutes and government. Moerk Water is proud to announce that we will cooperate with these amazing and inspiring young professionals to bring clean and safe drinking water to Indonesia.
“The Australia Awards short course on Renewable Energy was an eye opening experience. The introduction to advance clean energy technologies and connecting us to key companies in the sector such as Moerk Water, has inspired us to apply the technology to areas in Indonesia where people have problems accessing safe drinking water. We believe that by working together with Moerk Water, the local community will have an alternative choice in accessing safe drinking water that is much more sustainable and safer for the environment.”
