Remote Indigenous Community RO upgrade

ABOUT THE PROJECT

In 2018, Moerk Water was approached by the Department of Communities to design an upgrade for the existing reverse osmosis desalination system operating in a remote aboriginal community. The existing reverse osmosis plant provides water for nearly 300 permanent residents and 500 additional people 3 times a year. Moerk Water created a range of simulations and models and determined that there was a broad range of options to increase the product water supply using the installed system. These options included simple alterations to the unit, blending options with other local bore water sources and changing the operating parameters of the unit. Moerk Water delivered a report to the Department of Communities outlining each of these options including a list of recommendations.

Project Outcomes:

  • Moerk Water was approached by the Department of Communities to upgrade the existing water treatment system in a remote aboriginal community
  • The goal was to find a range of methods to increase the permeate flow of the existing membrane filtration system
  • Moerk Water determined a range of options to increase the product water supply including simple alterations to the unit, blending options with other water sources in the area and changing the operating parameters of the unit
